Gorgeous trees come from our Christmas Tree farm in Duluth, MN.

We currently have about 27 acres planted with beautiful Balsam, Spruce, White Pine, and Norway Pine trees. Imagine one of these fragrant trees gracing your home this holiday season! You can order your choice of 6-7 foot Fraser Fir or 6-7 foot Balsam Fir online, or visit us locally at the Duluth Farmers' Market or Dan's Feed Bin in Superior.

If you are concerned about our environment, we know you want to be sure your Christmas tree is eco-friendly. We grow trees on a farm, just like we grow corn. We plant the trees in rows, cut them at the right time, and plant new trees, just like planting corn. They're truly a renewable resource. How are real trees produced? 
By farming. Planting takes place Jan- May. An estimated 40-45  million trees were planted in 2007 in North America. There are an estimated 446 million trees growing on farms in the US. Tree farms support complex eco-systems.
How are fake trees produced?
In factories. Raw materials are sent to factories and assembled into the final product. The product is shipped to the US, then distributed to stores. The number of factories is unknown. Factories only consume natural resources.
What are real trees made of?
Plant tissue. They are 100% biodegradable.
What are are fake trees made of?
Plastics and metals. They are non-biodegradable.

No

Yes. Lead is used in the process of making PVC plastic.
Are real trees carbon neutral?
Yes. Trees absorb carbon dioxide. When decomposing, carbon, nitrogen and other elements are released into the soil.
Are fake trees carbon neutral?
No. Plastic is a petroleum byproduct.
What about chemicals on real trees?
Scientists have measured cut Christmas trees for chemical residues and not found any significant amounts. Many different bugs, fungi and parasites can attack and kill trees, so farmers may used pesticides to keep consumers' trees healthy and alive until harvest. Most pesticides are ground applied. Herbicides may be used to suppress, not kill off, weeds to prevent soil erosion. If someone tells you "there are chemicals on cut Christmas trees," they are wrong.

What about chemicals with fake trees?Yes. PVC itself is a dangerous chemical. Manufacture of PVC creates and disperses dioxins, the most toxic man-made chemical known. Released into air or water, dioxins enter the food chanin, where they accumulate in fatty tissues of animals and humans, a potential risk for causing cancer, damaging immune functions and imparing children's development.

 

How are real trees disposed of?
By recycling. Used trees can be recycled in a variety of ways. Decomposing trees add nutrients back into the earth.
How are fake trees disposed of?
In landfills. Artificial trees can't be recycled and end up in landfills. All of the accumulated artificial trees are a burden to the environment indefinitely.
Are real trees a renewable resource?
Yes
Are fake trees a renewable resource?
No. Petroleum, used to make plastic, is a non-renewable resource, as are metals.
